USA-Austausch: Tag 7 – Der zweite Schultag

– Joost

Today is the third whole day in our host families and many of us have already experienced a lot! Today is the second school day for us and we have arrived in the middle of the American school routine. We drive to school every day with my hostfather’s car because he is a teacher at the Tri-Valley High School, so I don‘t drive to school by these typical yellow school busses like in TV. In school, I realized once again what a significance sports have in America! Every other day, I have sports, the other days music – music for the football game on Friday. The school system is also different: there is only one hour per class, and the classes are repeated daily. What also surprises me is that the students are not allowed to leave the school building during school! There’s no school yard and just a break for lunch. The food tastes okay. Between lessons you have about three minutes to go to the room for the next class. In America, every teacher has his own room for his courses. In the 8th and 9th hour we did sports with Mrs. Budau and Mr. Jahic, and yeees… there is in any case still room for improvement… but it’s definitely fun: basketball in this super groomed gym! After our sports unit, it was already 3pm. Some of us went home, but I stayed for soccer practice, where the players prepared for the game on Wednesday, so tomorrow. Some of us were also at the volleyball match or at the girls‘ soccer match in the afternoon. I went home and spent the rest of the evening with my family, because my oldest guest sister is going to Australia on Wednesday for three and a half years to study there. Finally, I can just say again that we have arrived in the middle of American school life and are looking forward to tomorrow’s trip to Philadelphia… – Joost
